Aastra has been a leader in VoIP phone technology for some time now. Paving the way with SIP support over the past decade, Aastra has also revolutionized the industry with many hybrid wireless DECT / SIP phones.
Standard Features
All Aastra models we’ll be discussing are IP phones that support SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and are compatible with many open source IP PBX platforms like Asterisk, trixbox, freePBX, and others.
Aastra phones also use 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, feature a full duplex speakerphone, have at least 6 line appearances. Aastra phones also include required accessories like handset cords and required Ethernet cables.
Line Appearances
Aastra phones range line appearances anywhere from 6 line appearances to 9.
Common Uses
The most common Aastra phones that are used in common areas are the Aastra 6730i & Aastra 6731i because of their low price point. It should also be noted that the 6730i only has a single Ethernet port, which can sometimes be desirable for security in common areas, however, the 6730i will require AC power because it does not support PoE.
Aastra 6731i phones are commonly used in call centers because they have dual Ethernet ports, support PoE, and have an aggressive price point. (Many call centers use the most basic IP phone possible because they have call control software that supplements the capabilities of the phone).
The Aastra 6735i, 6737i, 6755i, 9143i, and 6757i are standard user phones because they feature two line appearances and are often well complemented by telephony based call control software. These phones also feature a larger display of 144×75 pixel or 144×128 pixel depending on the model. All of these phones can also be expanded using the Aastra 536M or 560M expansion modules also making them ideal reception phones.
The Aastra 6739i is commonly found on the desks of power users or a receptionist. The Aastra 6739i features a 5.7” full color high-resolution touch screen display, Gigabit Ethernet, and HD audio. The Aastra 6739i also can be expanded using the Aastra 536M or 560M expansion modules.
Aastra 6757i CT and 9480i CT phones are ideal for users that are frequently away from their desk. The Aastra 6757i CT and 8480i CT phones include a wireless DECT handset that communicates with the desk phone (the desk phone also acts as the base station for the wireless DECT handset). These phones are commonly found in the office of power users, warehouse employees, or anyone that has is frequently away from their desk.
